Week of August 25th

It was great to see all of the band students again! Thank you for a great first week. We are going to have a great year and I look forward to working with such a great group of kids.

Schedule for the week of 8/25:
Monday, August 25th - All State help for any students from 4 pm until 5:15 pm.
                                       
(students must email Mr Nista for appointments with All State help)

Tuesday, August 26th - All State help for any student from 4 pm until 5:15 pm
                                    6:30 pm - Beginning Parent meeting in band room (important)

Thursday, August 28th - Open House for all 6th grade students.

Friday, August 29th - Drum Line practice 8-9:00 am with Mr. Mann.
                                    All State help 4:00 - 5:30 pm


IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. We will be signing up students for All State band during 3rd hour the entire week with Mrs. Fox. The registration fee is 10.00 and the money needs to be in by Friday, August 29th. Students can pay by check (RMS Band) or cash. Our band parent organization will collect the money and write one check to the Florida Bandmasters Association.

2. Mrs. Fox is ordering Marching Band Polo shirts by Friday, August 29th. Order forms are in the band room. All Beginning Band students, including Jazz and Marching Band students will need a shirt. Please get your order form and $15.00 to Mrs. Fox by the end of the week.

3. The RMS Band welcomes our new intern, Mr. Brandon Nix. Mr. Nix will be graduating FSU following his internship at RMS in December.

Upcoming Events:
Tuesday, September 2nd - Jazz Band #1 auditions 8:00 - 9am in band room (entire week and may
                                            continue into the following week).                                                         

Wednesday, September 10th - Video Chair Placement exam for Honors, Symphonic and Concert Bands.

Saturday, September 20th - All State Auditions at RMS 8:00 am until 5pm for middle school and high                                                 school students of Broward County

Welcome RMS Band Members!

 I hope all of you have had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to a musical school year.

                           Rmsband.org for IMPORTANT INFO

A.) Students do not need their instrument for the first two days of school.  

 B.) Parents of our Beginning Band students are encouraged to attend a meeting on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the band room.  We will discuss the instruments selection process and important information dealing with our program.

C.) Have a pencil and an agenda for the first day of school. Students are encouraged to purchase a school agenda for $5.00. Students are to mark all morning rehearsal dates that apply for marching and jazz bands. In addition, they are encouraged to mark their calendars for all concert and parade dates.

D.) Symphonic, Concert and Honor Band Students will need to purchase a folder containing clear sheet inserts (or transparent inserts) to keep their music in during the school year. This is especially important for those students performing in jazz band and marching band.

E.) We will rent out lockers to members of the Symphonic, Concert and Honor Bands on Wednesday, (8/20) during the student's class time. Lockers are rented for $5.00 for the school year. Beginning band students will rent out lockers (after Labor Day vacation) once they decide what instrument they are playing.

Supply List for 2014-2015......

1. Classroom/Office supplies:
        A.) Paper for music copies - white or light colored paper. The paper must be 20lb for                     our copier.
        B.) Paper Towels
        C.) Liquid hand soap/sanitizer.
        D.) Mouthpiece sanitizer spray available at music stores.
        E.) Water for concerts and parades.
        F.) Reeds for woodwinds such clarinets, saxes , oboes and bassoons. (Medium soft)
        G.) Valve oil and slide grease for brass players.
        H.) Jumbo paper clips
         I.) Liquid paper, white out tape
